Hearing Aid Prices Vary Depending On Manufacturer and Style of Hearing Aid

Posted: December 15th, 2009 by Kolleen

hearing aidsMany parents of young children are faced with a difficult decision: whether to introduce their child to the hearing world or keep them in the deaf community.  The deaf community is a culture all to itself and they pride themselves in being deaf and most particularly don’t care for the hearing world or those who may straddle both worlds – individuals who have a clear voice yet cannot hear as well as a hearing person.

There are many schools set up specifically for deaf children and some do not even allow them to wear hearing aids but rather have them immersed themselves in the ASL – American Sign Language as a way of communicating with one another and their teachers.

Just as parents come down on both sides of the communication fence – should their children use their voice or only ASL, so too do doctors and audiologists.  However, an audiologist is a trained professional who work with hearing aids that are specifically designed to aid the hearing impaired in hearing better.

There is no right or wrong answer to the debate of allowing a hearing impaired or deaf child to use their voice or to only use sign language.  This is a debate that is best left to the family and then perhaps when the child is old enough to realize they have a choice between two worlds – one that uses voices and one that uses sign language, conceivably they could make the choice for themselves.

For those children and young adults who lose their hearing after they have had a few years of hearing and may still retain some hearing, then a hearing aid would be the best fit because they already have a voice in place and could continue in the hearing world with little adjustment.

Another option for the hearing impaired that still has some hearing would be a cochlear implant.  Good candidates for cochlear implant have some of their hearing intact and would benefit from the implant that helps sounds funneled directly into the ear from a device surgically implanted outside the scalp.

Small Digital Camera Cases Only Carry the Camera, Not All the Extras That Go With the Camera

Posted: November 5th, 2009 by Kolleen

bag for cameraMany new, smaller, everyday style digital cameras come with a small digital camera case however most people do not use this type of camera case because it does not allow for other equipment or such things as extra lenses and lens cleaners, a place to put additional computer chips – the ones that collect the photographs – rechargeable batteries and battery packs and anything else an amateur photographer may want to bring along on their photo hunting outing.

Paolo Marchesi, a famous outdoor photographer, has done it all for his craft which is outdoor photography.  He has been working for Outdoor Life magazine for several years and finds it very interesting and challenging to say the least.  Marchesi has participated in an extreme mule deer hunt near the Missouri River Breaks and an expedition in Montana with a special carcass biologist – carcasses do not sound all that great but his photographs are astounding.  He has been swimming with giant squids in many of the deep blue oceans; climbed ice mountains in the Arctic and hiked up volcanoes all over the world. For his craft, Marchesi has endured concussions, countless aches and pains, frostbite and the occasional headache all for the pursuit of the perfect picture.  He considers himself a sportsman first and foremost who believes his work to be an extension of his rugged everyday lifestyle.

Marchesi knows that each individual photographer has their own preference when it comes to a bag for camera to carry head around and protect it depending on what type of photography the person is interested in. Some semi-professional photographers take hundreds of random photographs in the hopes of capturing that one perfect picture of something that might make it a beautiful image for a calendar, brochure or a print that could be reproduced in multiples and sold to hundreds of people.

Above all else, a camera bag should protect its contents no matter what rough and tumble situation the camera bag may go through, such as at the airport, falling down a hill, falling out the back of a pickup truck or simply being knocked around as the owner of the camera bag treks through the wilderness.  Be sure to choose a durable yet soft and padded inside style camera bag.

Sonic Innovations, Siemens and Rexton All Make Hearing Aids for Those Who Need Help In the Hearing World

Posted: September 23rd, 2009 by Kolleen

SiemensSonic Innovations is a hearing aid manufacturer that is helping introduce the latest technology to those hearing-impaired persons so that they too can enjoy the benefits of cell phone usage.

Sonic Innovations has introduced their new SonicBLU – a wireless communications device that will allow users of the Sonic Innovations Velocity hearing aids to wirelessly connect to Bluetooth enabled cell phones. Similar to other hearing aids with Bluetooth compatibility, the SonicBLU device has a talk time of four hours and a standby time of up to 70 hours.  It uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and has an operating range of up to 10 meters.

Siemens hearing aid company has created a hearing aid that is virtually invisible and designed to eliminate that ‘plugged-up’ feeling some hearing-impaired people experience while wearing their hearing aids.  Acuris Life is a behind-the-ear hearing aid instrument which uses a newly developed tip and tubing that incorporates the recently introduced ear-to-ear wireless technology.  This new wireless technology enables the right and the left instruments to communicate with one another and function as one hearing unit.

The new Siemens Acuris Life automatically adjusts itself to the wearer’s listening environment but synchronized controls allows wearers to adjust the volume or program for both ears with a single adjustment of a button. This neRexw hearing device blends with the wearer’s hair and skin tone colors.

Rexton hearing aid company also produces different levels of hearing aid devices, the entry-level, mid-level and a high level all with varying degrees of technology built-in to help those hearing-impaired persons hear what is going on around them at an optimal level.

Rexton hearing aids offer digital and conventional analog hearing aids; however they do not offer the programmable analog hearing aids which are available through other companies.

Digital hearing aids are the most technologically advanced instruments on the market today and are great for individuals with active lifestyles. Programmable analog circuits contain analog circuitry and provide more versatility and advanced programming features than the conventional analog circuitry.  The parameters are adjusted through a computer by a hearing professional and the results are smoother, more comfortable sounds than non-programmable circuits.

Wedding Locations, Michigan Offer Beautiful Destination Weddings Year-Round

Posted: August 14th, 2009 by Leah

Before a bride and groom become husband and wife, they must start with a budget to determine how much they can spend on such things as the florists and flowers, wedding dress, catering and food, transportation such as limousines or rental cars or the wedding venue itself such as a destination wedding.

Destination weddings are the latest trend in weddings with something like 40 percent of the 2.3 million weddings every year taking place at a location other than the couple’s hometown church or synagogue.

Couples are urged to thoroughly research a destination wedding before booking their wedding date because most places such as a castle, a garden or a museum will need to have caterers and a cleanup crew brought in which adds to the overall cost of renting the venue.

There are wedding locations Michigan that offer beautiful flower gardens of various styles and shapes that bloom year-round so that a bride and groom could have a winter wedding or a traditional spring wedding.  This type of venue or destination wedding will already be working with a catering company or could recommend several different caterers in which a couple can choose from that know how to work at this particular type of wedding location.

There is a beautiful old castle right here in the United States located in Michigan which offers a wonderful destination wedding package that includes castle tours for the guests, your choice of rooms or outdoor gardens for the wedding ceremony and an additional set of rooms for receptions.

After the budget has been set and the destination has been thoroughly researched and booked for a day far enough in the future that allows perfect planning, the next thing to do would be to start a guest list.  The guest list often becomes a point of contention within families and between the two families.    If you have not seen or talked with a person in a long while, there is no need to invite them.  This will help keep costs low, especially with the destination wedding, which should only include close friends and family.

Another way to stretch a wedding budget is to consider off-peak times.  Morning weddings are very big in Europe and with a morning reception the food is much cheaper than a dinner reception.

Solar Energy, Solar Panel Helps Individuals, Community with Energy Costs

Posted: August 12th, 2009 by Kolleen

solar panelAnyone considering using solar energy by constructing solar power panels should consider the advantages and disadvantages of solar power before undertaking such a large project.  Individual homeowners and communities may think solar energy through solar panels will help their utility bills and help them save the environment however, being environmentally conscious is only one of the advantages of solar power.

Some of the positive advantages about solar energy begin with its primary benefit of being a cleaner and less toxic source of power.  Solar energy uses no fuel and produces no byproducts; this means there is no pollution involved.  Unlike oils and gases, solar energy can be extracted and reduce its carbon footprint to nearly zero while at the same time not produce any unnecessary pollutants.  Reducing a carbon footprint will help in the fight against global warming which is an important fight to many individuals.

Another advantage of solar energy is that the solar panel, solar sign lights and solar power traffic signs need fewer amounts of maintenance than other forms of energy removing technology.  The primary reason for this is because there are no moving parts and there is no cost for fuel for a solar panel.

A number of of the disadvantages of solar energy include the initial cost of installing solar energy equipment, which can be overwhelming to a family or community; in order to achieve a good level of efficiency, solar panels require a large area for installation that many homes do not have; the location of the sun is what the solar system relies on most although this problem can be resolved with the installation of other components and the removal of trees.  Finding a suitable piece of land for the solar panels could also prove to be a problem for smaller communities.

Another disadvantage associated with solar energy includes inefficiencies, being expensive to build in the first place and manufacturing pollution.  Beginning with inefficiencies, the technology which helps produce solar energy is entrenched in science and facts, it is not always as efficient as it could be.

St. Pete Self Storage Uses Surveillance Cameras, Keeps Criminals at Bay

Posted: February 6th, 2009 by admin

St. Pete self storageMany St. Pete self storage facilities are in the news because they have been updated and upgraded to include surveillance cameras, air conditioning and 24 hours seven day a week access.  Breaking into storage units are just one of the many crimes committed in these economic hard times in which people believe stealing is their only option when they’ve lost their job or need money to feed their families.  Many people keep valuables in storage units because they have no room in their homes and feel a storage unit is safer than their home, however that is not always the case.

A lot of people find that they have too much stuff but just can’t seem to part with their belongings or may need them at some point in the future; therefore St. Pete storage units would be the right answer to their problems.  People who move to the Florida area and perhaps live in Tampa rentals would be ideal candidates for storage units for items they want but do not need on a daily basis.

A storage unit that offers 24 hour access gives people the freedom to access their belongings whenever they need to on their own schedule and not on the schedule of a storage company.  Additionally, having state-of-the-art surveillance cameras help to keep burglars and others who try to gain access to someone else’s storage unit thinking twice when they see the surveillance cameras knowing someone is at the other end watching them or recording their every move and the impending trouble they could be in if they go ahead with their plan to break into someone’s storage units.  Breaking and entering and selling stolen property both come with fines and jail time.

Another way a self storage unit could protect their customers from unwanted intrusions is to have a gate that surrounds the premises and only gives keys to those customers who have a storage unit within the facility.  The keys could be key cards instead of regular keys, this way they could not be duplicated.  However, the best way to keep criminals at bay would be a state-of-the-art surveillance system that includes motion detectors hooked up to large flood lights that illuminate the storage unit area when someone moves in a restricted area at night.  People would be willing to pay a little more for their storage units in order to have that protection for their valuables and other belongings if they knew they would be protected.

A self storage unit also needs to advise its customers to purchase renters insurance in case of the off chance something like a burglary does happen.  Renters insurance should cover customers who rent storage units to keep their valuables in.

Hearing Aids in the News, Integrated Signal Processing Latest Technology

Posted: February 5th, 2009 by admin

hearing aidsThe latest advancement in hearing aids, according to several news articles both in newsprint and on websites, is the Integrated Signal Processing or ISP.  It effectively integrates a person’s hearing, what has not been lost, and filters through whatever atmosphere they are, in other words filtered through the noise, to maximize their hearing.

According to many published reports, hearing loss may not be reversed; however it could be managed with the help of state-of-the-art hearing aids.  Just as a DC dentist would recommend dentures to a person who has lost their teeth, an audiologist would recommend a hearing aid to a person losing their hearing.

There are three types of hearing loss: Sensorineural, conductive and mixed hearing loss. Sensorineural happens to be the most common type of hearing loss experienced by millions of people and is commonly referred to as nerve loss or nerve damage.  This is described as the auditory nerve and the inner ear not properly communicating or transmitting signals to the brain.  Conductive hearing loss often times can be medically treated, for example a hearing loss due to an ear infection.  And mixed hearing loss have both Sensorineural and conductive hearing losses.

When considering purchasing a hearing aid, it is wise to read hearing aid reviews either in medical journals or through Internet website articles.  An audiologist will test a person for hearing loss and then recommend various hearing aids, giving the person the opportunity to try out the various brands of hearing devices.  Many brands of hearing aids are no bigger than a dime and fit comfortably within the ear canal so that no one can see that you are wearing a hearing aid.  Advancements in technology have allowed scientists to create hearing devices that are so tiny and comfortable, yet work remarkably well to help delete static and white noise so that a person’s voice or a sound comes in crystal-clear.

Many published reports state that from age 18 to 44, approximately two out of every 10 adults experience a hearing loss.  From ages 45 to 64 this number increases to three out of every 10 adults experience a hearing loss. After age 65, four out of every 10 adults will experience some degree of hearing loss.  These statistics do not include those people who are born deaf because hearing aids do not help but profoundly deaf, only the hard of hearing.

It is important to have children tested for hearing loss at an early age, then at regular intervals of between five to seven years.  Because hearing loss happens so slowly, many people do not realize the extent of their hearing loss. It is usually the people around them, friends and family, that notice their hearing loss before they do.
